Marriage Ministry
Ministry Mission Statement

The Marriage Ministry encourages and equips husbands and wives to grow closer to each other as they grow closer to Christ.

Dating? Engaged? Newlywed, not so newlywed? Chapelwood’s marriage ministry consists of a core group of fifteen couples committed to encouraging and equipping husbands and wives in all stages of marriage to have healthy, strong marriages. Many of us have experienced divorce. Some have children, some do not. Some represent blended families. Some of us are young, some of us are not so young. We’ve had challenges with children, in-laws, health, finances, and each other! In short, we represent the many ages and stages of marriage.

Marriage Mentors:
Couples who want to provide hope and encouragement for husbands and wives of all ages and marital duration by providing accessible, simple communication tools to assist in confronting any issues in marriage. We endeavor to model transparent, flawed relationships by sharing our stories and how God has helped us utilize a variety of tools for a variety of problems resulting in healing, restoration and stronger relationships. We have trained marriage mentor couples whose lives have been transformed by the encouragement and wisdom gained in working on our marriages, and we want to come alongside other couples to provide support and encouragement, and to share the hope!

The mentor / mentee relationship typically lasts four to six months. Time, location and frequency of meetings is determined by the mentor / mentee couples.

"You and Me Forever, Marriage in Light of Eternity" Book Study: Wednesdays, January 13 - February 24, excluding February 10, from 6:30 - 8 PM in the Conference Room.

You and Me Forever, by Francis and Lisa Chan, is much more than a marriage book. It’s a book about making “the main thing” about you and your marriage“the main thing” and keeping it “the main thing”.  There are plenty of marriage books that will teach you how to get along and be happy in your marriage. This is not one of those books. We have all read books that were good and informative, but not life changing. This book is about loving your spouse forever, and it is life changing. Fred Lowe will facilitate this study.

Bringing Baby Home Workshop: Sundays, January 31 - March 13, excluding February 7, from 4 - 6 PM in Learning Center 211-212.

If you are expecting, new to parenthood, or with small children and/or babies, you don’t want to miss this special opportunity that will enrich your marriage for a lifetime.  Research shows that within three years after the birth of a baby, approximately two-thirds of husbands and wives will experience a significant decline in marital satisfaction and have a dramatic increase in conflict and hostility.  As the transition to parenthood presents a highly stressful time for new parents, the BBH research based program addresses the concerns unique to this stage in a couple’s marriage, and aims to provide couples effective tools to grow in emotional intelligence, keep a strong and intimate connection, and navigate stressful marital challenges.

Coupleswho have participated the program in the past report:

  • A significantly lower rate of postpartum mood disorders and depression

  • A decrease in relationship hostility

  • A higher level of relationship satisfaction

  • Decreased likelihood of divorce

The six-week marriage series led by Gottman trained educators and therapists, Kim Jones (LMFT-Associate) and Tricia Miller (LPC-Intern), will guide husbands and wives to strengthen their marriage in an interactive, engaging, and lighthearted format. Cost is $100 per couple for materials.

"...a triple-braided cord is not easily broken." Marriage Dinner and Panel Discussion: Sunday, February 21, 2016 at 6:00 PM in Fellowship Hall. Registration and doors open at 5:30. Join us for an amazing evening as we discuss the importance of God in our marriages with panelists:

Prepare-Enrich: is a customized couple assessment completed online that identifies a couple’s strength and growth areas in the following categories: communication, conflict resolution, style and habits, financial management, leisure, sexual expectations, family and friends, roles and spiritual beliefs, plus some customized questions specific to premarital, remarried, newly and not-so-newlywed couples. The assessment results, when used in conjunction with four to six sessions with a trained facilitator, can help to positively transform relationships.
