The world needs transformation, and God has given the Church to be the instrument that changes the world. The problem is that most churches don’t think they can influence the world around them. But that’s not the way we think at Chapelwood. We have actively been at work in our community for 68 years. Our community is better because Chapelwood is present. The world needs more and Chapelwood is poised to do its part. We are ready to take the next step and impact a broader section of our community than ever before.
At Chapelwood, God is creating a masterpiece across all of our communities. Scripture teaches us that spiritual vision is a gift from God. It is God’s divine power at work that allows us to see something that doesn’t yet exist. When God gives us a vision, it is something of faith, not of sight, yet it is very real.
God’s vision for Chapelwood is a gift He gave clarity to in 2016 and that we call “Beyond the Horizon.”
By 2024, when Chapelwood turns 75 years old, we envision renewed life, growth, and vitality as we extend our unique grace-embodying ministry of Jesus Christ by revitalizing existing worship communities and starting new, vital worship communities which will raise up and equip maturing disciples who act to transform lives for Jesus Christ in the communities we serve.
This vision has already propelled us to accomplish things we would not have been able to do without God’s involvement. In 2017, our Beyond the Horizon vision compelled us to revitalize and rejuvenate our worship across all of our communities – Sanctuary, Mercy Street, Contemplative, The Branch, and Upper Room. We also birthed a new community, Holy Family, and adopted a new community, Fair Haven. There are more communities and worship services to come because the worship of God is central to our identity as Christ followers and invites new disciples to join us in this journey. But the church is more than just worship.
God’s vision also compels us to grow in our discipleship. The mission of the church is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. This is about inviting new disciples AND the continuing maturity of existing disciples – that means you and me. Disciples mature through intentional relationships and growing together in groups. We will see a renewed focus on family discipleship and transformed lives for Christ in 2018. We will strive to align all areas of our ministry to invite everyone to go deeper in their faith journey.
Vision must always motivate and encourage us to keep pressing toward our “why.” Our “‘why” at Chapelwood is so that the kingdom of God becomes a reality in our spheres of influence. We long for God to reign in the hearts and lives of people and institutions that we impact. We can give hope and healing to those who seek more in life.
God is asking much of Chapelwood and much of each one of us. We can’t wait to see how God uses us to change the world!
