Advent for the Whole Family

The word Advent means “coming.” Christians celebrate the season of Advent as a time of preparation and reflection in anticipation of Christmas – the birth of Jesus Christ, and of Christ’s return. There are many ways to mark this special time of year.  Some families enjoy using an Advent Calendar as a way of counting the days leading up to December 25 with a Scripture verse that tells the story of Jesus’ birth and what that means for us today.

In many churches and in homes, Advent Wreaths (consisting of five candles placed in a circle of evergreens) are used along with Bible readings for the four Sundays before Christmas and for Christmas Day to tell the story of hope, love, joy and peace that God offers to us  through a relationship with Jesus.

For Advent 2022, Chapelwood Children's Discipleship is preparing "at home Advent" resources below. Our Chapelwood Family Advent Booklet is linked below and you may download a copy to print at home. You may use this every week to follow the four Sundays in advent with accompanying video messages of hope, love, joy and peace which you can find linked below or in the Chapelwood Children's App. There is also a music playlist and a link to our advent Pinterest page for more activities at home.
