The United Methodist Church recognizes baptism as an outward visible sign of an inward spiritual grace.  Baptism is the means by which individuals enter into Christ’s holy church, participate in God’s mighty acts of salvation, and receive new birth through water and the Spirit. All of this is God’s gift, offered to us without price.

The sacrament of baptism is offered to infants, children, youth, and adults as a one time event.  Through baptism, a covenant is made between God, the individual being baptized, and the members of the congregation. Therefore, baptisms are held at part of the worship service, so that the covenant community is present.

Baptism at Chapelwood

Baptisms are scheduled to occur during the Sanctuary services on the second Sunday of each month.  Baptism date and service time are selected from the registration link. If a private baptism is preferred, this can also be requested and date/time will be scheduled based on the schedule of the Pastor and the family. All parents/guardians of children to be baptized must attend Pastor LM's Baptism Class prior to the date of the child's baptism. Baptism Classed are held on the 4th Sunday of most months at 11:05 in LC201.

Adults and youth who were not previously baptized as infants or children take the vows of baptism for themselves. It is recommended the candidate for baptism visit with a pastor to understand the vows they will make at the time of their baptism. Baptism can be done at anytime, typically in conjunction with individuals becoming a member of the church.
