WHAT IS CONFIRMATION?
Confirmation is our introduction into the life of the Church. Confirmation is designed for middle school aged students to explore what it means to be a follower of Jesus, to be transformed by His Spirit, and to take their place in the narrative of God’s mission in the world.
Throughout the confirmation process, we desire to give students and families a place to belong, a foundation for belief, and an invitation to become the Church. Students are stepping up to a new starting line of their faith journey. We see confirmation as a launching point from which they will BE the church and lead a life-long faith that bears the fruit of the Spirit of Christ.

The Process
The purpose of confirmation is to “make firm” a student’s faith. Our three-year confirmation process shifts confirmation away from an information focused program to become a more significant rite of passage process that shapes students’ hearts and identities in Christ. The process is divided into three phases.
A PDF of the whole process is available here.
Phase 1: Belonging: Your Place in the Story
In the first semester of sixth grade, students meet in class during the 9:45 hour. We will walk through the whole Bible to see how it is a unified story that points to Jesus and to see how their life fits into God’s mission in the world. After the first semester, students are invited into our middle school breakout during the 9:45 hour.
Phase 2: Becoming: who you are made to be
The middle phase is an invitation into a process of shaping students’ identities in Christ through the rhythms of Student Ministry. Sunday morning middle school breakout, life groups, trips, service days, mentorships, and Right of Passage retreat are all key components of making this phase just as important as 6th and 8th grade.
Phase 3: Confirmation of Faith: owning your place in the kingdom
In the second semester of eighth grade, students meet in class during the 9:45 hour to discuss crucial theology, their place in the Church, and understanding the Wesleyan vows. Journeying through the process while deepening their knowledge and faith to fully be equipped to make the vows in the culmination of the confirmation service.
Lastly, we want to welcome you, 5th-grade parents, and tell you about our heart behind these changes!
Save the Dates
We will kick off confirmation with a beach day on Saturday, August 9, 2025! This is an opportunity for our team to get to know your student, have some fun, and get excited for confirmation.
The official first day of Confirmation will be on Sunday, August 17, 2025, with class at 9:45 a.m. and a parent training at 11:00 a.m.
Our Middle School Fall Retreat retreat will be held at Stoney Creek Ranch from September 12- 14, 2025. We will depart Chapelwood at 5:30 p.m. on Friday and arrive back at Chapelwood on Sunday at 12:00 p.m. The retreat is mandatory and crucial for the confirmation journey. You will register for this as part of the confirmation registration. If you are in need of a scholarship, please get in touch with Jackie Harrison.
Parents
We need you! Please consider volunteering as both a retreat chaperone and a table leader. We need to have a 5:1 ratio of adults to students.
