Welcome!

At Chapelwood, we are on a mission to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. In other words, our mission is to love and follow Jesus, and to invite others to love and follow him, too, so we can help touch people’s lives.

We do that by embodying grace as we receive it to those who need it - and everyone needs it, including all of us! What does “embodying grace” mean? It’s putting God’s love, mercy, forgiveness, healing, and acceptance into practice. It’s putting hands and feet to God’s work.

Chapelwood provides opportunities for everyone to worship God, grow in faith together and on our own, and to serve others.

You’re invited to take your next step with us.

Who We Are

We are a 6,000+ member United Methodist church located on the west side of Houston, Texas.

Our mission is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world by embodying God's grace as we receive it to those who need it. We are a service-focused body of believers who welcome all to experience God’s grace and goodness through Christian community. While we are determined to “take church” to those who do not belong to a local church family, we also delight in serving those individuals and families within our church. We provide ongoing faith-building activities and meaningful fellowship opportunities for men, women, youth, and children, not only on our main campus on Greenbay, but online and through our worship communities found at our Spring Branch, East Downtown, and Heights campuses, as well.

What We Believe

As a Methodist church we hold beliefs consistent with Christian churches throughout the world. We believe God, who is one, is revealed in three distinct persons. We believe in the mystery of salvation through Jesus Christ, and we believe The Holy Spirit is God's present activity in our midst. We believe that the Bible is God’s Word and is the primary authority for our faith and practice.

These beliefs are born out in our Ten Core Values, which provide the foundation for the ways we strive to bring people closer to God.

There's more, and we invite you to immerse yourself in God's abundant grace with believers of all ages, all backgrounds, and all stages of life.

ABOUT MEMBERSHIP

Interested in Membership?

WE WELCOME NEW MEMBERS!

HERE ARE A FEW THINGS YOU MIGHT FIND HELPFUL TO KNOW:
  • Membership represents your commitment as a disciple of Jesus Christ to walk alongside of others on the Discipleship Pathway and to support the ministries of Chapelwood as a disciple of Jesus Christ through your prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness.
  • Periodically, we offer sessions (completely optional) that inform new members and visitors about becoming a member and getting connected at Chapelwood. We're a large church with a small-church feel, and know the importance of fellowship and involvement.
  • While each of our worship services has a slightly different feel, we're all part of the same church. When you join Chapelwood U.M.C., you're encouraged to attend any or all of our worship services.
  • We have a staff ready and willing to help you step into faith-building opportunities of all types. Additionally, many of our members plan, organize, and lead events such as studies, retreats, and groups. If you feel called to help build a path for others, we can get you connected there, too.

Information about memorial services scheduled at Chapelwood can be found here.
