Job Summary

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for repairs and maintenance for all Chapelwood facilities and assets. This position works closely with the Lead Maintenance Technician and reports to the Facilities Manager.

Essential Daily Functions

  • Assist with maintaining buildings and grounds through repairs and preventative maintenance
  • Monitor & replace light fixture lamps and ballasts as needed
  • Perform minor electrical & plumbing work as necessary
  • Ability to perform general repair and handyman tasks
  • Basic skills in wall repair and painting
  • Proficient carpentry skills desired, but not a requirement
  • Knowledge of HVAC equipment desired, but not a requirement
  • Perform other maintenance duties as assigned by the Facilities Manager

Skills

  • Must be able to effectively communicate (oral & written) with all church employees, members, contractors, & vendors
  • Ability to speak English/Spanish is highly encouraged
  • Self-Starter & Team Player a must
  • Basic computer, email, database, and word processing skills

Knowledge

  • High School, College, and/or Technical School degree or certication highly encouraged
  • Must have a basic understanding of how facilities operate
  • Understanding of how church’s operate encouraged, but not a requirement

Abilities

  •    Understand & follow oral & written instructions
  •    Ability to prioritize and manage multi-functional tasks
  •    Ability to work effectively under pressure, and against time constraints
  •    Ability to use standard powered and un-powered tools

Working Conditions

  • Be able to walk, bend, stoop, balance, crawl and reach for extended periods of ;me
  • Must be able to utilize a computer, tablet, or smart phone
  • Must be able to liW up to 100 pounds
  • Must be comfortable working off ladders, scffolding, and aerial liWs
  • Must be able to work independently without supervision
  • Must maintain proper hygiene & cleanliness
  • Must have a valid Drivers License and reliable means of transportation to work
  • Must pass a background check and complete church required Safe Sanctuary Training

  • Chapelwood United Methodist Church is located in Piney Point Village, a city in Harris County, Texas on the west side of Houston.
  • Chartered in 1949 the church currently has 5,000+ members.
  • At present, the church meets at 4 dfferent locations. They include campuses on Greenbay St. (in Piney PointVillage), Gessner Rd. (Fair Haven, in south Spring Branch), Campbell Rd. (in north Spring Branch), and the Upper Room campus (Grace UMC in The Heights).
  • Of the 4 locations where worship communities meet, 3 of those are owned & operated by the church (Greenbay, Gessner, and Campbell).
  • The 3 campuses owned & operated by the church total approx. 400,000SF of building space.

Compensation

  •    40 hours a week position with comparable hourly rate
  •    Monday-Friday normal work schedule, with potential for some weekend work
  •    Overtime rate is time and a half and available when required
  •    Paid holidays
