The Pastoral Care Ministry of Chapelwood exists to provide and embody Christ-like, confidential, compassionate care to individuals experiencing a personal crisis (health, relational, emotional, or spiritual), loss, and life transition. This is accomplished through ministries to those who are hospitalized or homebound; in nursing homes or other assisted living situations; through individualized pastoral counseling, grief support groups, benevolence ministries, and a variety of other caring resources. While our pastors are not licensed counselors and therefore are not available for long-term counseling needs, we can direct people in need to a number of places where such counseling is available. Simply need a listening ear for a short time? Chapelwood is a Stephen Ministry congregation, with members available to those who need a listening ear.
Chapelwood's Pastoral Care staff also supports and cares for those who need to arrange Memorial Services for a loved one.
In case of an after-hours emergency, dial the church number, (713) 465-3467 to be connected with the pastor on call.
Prayer Ministry
Intercessory prayer is one of the most important sources of spiritual support in the Chapelwood community. Church members, their families and friends are invited to request prayer support of staff and fellow members by submitting prayer requests either in writing, by completing a Prayer Request Card found in pew racks in the Sanctuary, or online. Please contact Pamela Moore (713) 354-4480 for more information.
Hospital Visitation
Chapelwood pastors and trained lay volunteers make regular visits to those who are hospitalized to provide the ministry of presence and prayer. To add a name to the hospital visitation list, please contact Jessica Lara at [email protected] or (713) 354-4443.
Funerals and Memorial Services
The Pastoral Care Team works closely with families dealing with end of life issues including the planning of funerals and memorial services. Please contact Jessica Lara at [email protected] or (713) 354-4443 for assistance.
Grief Support
Chapelwood’s Grief Support Group is an ongoing ministry to those experiencing the pain of loss when a loved one passes. The group generally meets the first and third Monday of each month from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. via Zoom. This is an open group where participants are free to join at any time and leave when they feel they have received the help they need. For further information, please contact Donna Wotkyns, LCSW, at [email protected] or (713) 354-4443.
GriefShare
Grief after losing a loved one is a long and painful process for many, and you do not have to walk it alone. Chapelwood offers a 13-week GriefShare class that addresses topics and issues many people experience when grieving the death of a loved one. It is a great benefit to find a place where you can be around others who understand the pain of your loss. For more information, please contact Rev. Andrew Wolfe at [email protected]
Winter/Spring - The next GriefShare Class begins on January 16, 2025. Classes are 1:00pm in the Garden Room (YB100). To register for this class, emailed [email protected].
Ministry to the Homebound
Those unable to attend church in person are still a very important part of the Chapelwood community. Trained lay volunteers make regular telephone calls and personal visits to the homebound offering prayer, support, and encouragement. Holy Communion is also available upon request. For more information, please contact Rev. Andrew Wolfe at [email protected] or Jessica Lara at [email protected] or (713) 354-4443.
Pastoral Counseling
Although Chapelwood’s Pastoral Staff members are not professional counselors, they are available to offer pastoral care and counsel to those dealing with a wide variety of life issues. Pastors seek to offer prayer support and spiritual direction. Referrals to licensed professionals are also available. For more information, contact Rev. Andrew Wolfe at [email protected] or Jessica Lara at [email protected] or (713) 354-4443. You may also contact a pastor directly.
Stephen Ministry

Stephen Ministers are laypersons who have undergone extensive training to be able to walk alongside those dealing with various sorts of life crises, such as divorce, the death of a spouse, job loss, or long-term illness. Stephen Ministers meet weekly with care receivers to journey through such life transitions. For more information, contact Pamela Moore at [email protected] and (713) 354-4480.
