Gessner Community Lunches are a simple way to meet and serve the community who visit our Gessner Road campus on a regular basis. Lunches are held on the 4th Wednesday of each month and volunteers gather to assemble sandwiches, serve lunch and visit at the tables with our neighbors. Donations of fruit and chips are requested each month and cookies are provided by Golden Butterfly Bakers, a Houston-based, non-profit bakery.
Our next few 2025 Community Lunches will be held on Wednesdays: January 22, February 26, March 26 and April 23. Please check the Events Calendar for each month’s lunch and sign up to bring an item or come to serve folks in our community.
What is the Gessner Community Lunch? A simple, informal lunch served to anyone who is on the Gessner campus. Paper invitations are available to Food Pantry Patrons, MAM/ESL sudents and staff, our neighbors in the community. Yards signs are placed along the Gessner fence to invite drivers and passers-by. It is also a simple volunteer opportunity for groups to manage collection of needed food items and volunteer. If your groups wants a simple, stand-alone serving project, this is it!
If your group would like to serve as a Community Lunch Ministry Partner for one of the lunches upcoming in 2025, you may find those dates and signup HERE
Why is the Gessner Community Lunch important? On February 28, 2025, the first community lunch was held. Visitors to the Gessner Road campus were hosted for a light lunch and conversation. There was a good crowd of around 80 people in attendance. Pastor Joseph of Generaciones and Pastor Paul of Fair Haven gave a welcome and invitation to come worship and reach out to connect with the church. Guests were invited to share their contact information to stay connected, and more than 50 persons responded. The guests were deeply moved to experience the love of Christ from table leaders from the Micah 6:8 group who heard their stories and prayed with them.
Gessner Community Lunches continue monthly with different groups sponsoring each month including: the Crossing, Discovery and Encouragers Sunday School Classes, Chapelwood Student Ministry, Tammy Heinrich's Monday Bible Study, and even community groups: Pine Shadows PTA and Royal Oaks Garden Club.
