- About Us
You get into your car and load your home address into your GPS. You want to take the clearest and most direct route to get home. You hit the road . . . and 5 minutes into your trip, your GPS service alerts you to a wreck on your route and an accompanying slowdown . . . and it announces that there is now another route home . . . a route that is not the one you expected . . . a route that will take longer than you thought through an area you are unfamiliar with. This is what these days of 2020 have done to us . . . they have altered our agendas and thrown a slowdown into our plans for life. How many of us have fretted about Thanksgiving or Christmas celebrations this year? What are we going to do? CDC and the medical authorities are telling us that family gatherings represent a risk . . . but some of us are saying, “But we always do this . . .” or “But THIS is how our family does holidays”....“ or “I can’t imagine Christmas without . . .“ or “How will I get home this Christmas?”
Home is the place where we belong...the place we are most truly ourselves. Perhaps this year, we are being invited to go “home” by a different way. This is literally what the Magi had to do in the Christmas story, after they worshipped Jesus and then learned of Herod’s evil intentions for the newborn child. They returned home by another way (Matthew 2:12). The destination is the same . . . we are trying to get home, to the place where we most belong. We simply must take a different road or path to arrive there this year. This Advent, we are invited to hold this season with open hands, to be flexible, to go another way, if necessary, rather than plow ahead with “the way we’ve always done it,” to experience Christ in a new way. Join us each Sunday during Advent as the characters of the Christ story remind us that while things may not be as expected, Christ will always lead us home.
