The Gospel of Mark: Overpowering the “Strong Man”

The Gospel of Mark is thought to be the earliest of the four gospels yet it is the least “glamorous,” conveying a strange story of a secretive messiah who chooses twelve ne’er-do-well disciples who later betray and abandon him.  The Gospel ends with the women at the tomb hearing from an angel that Jesus has been risen yet telling no one because they are so frightened!

What are we supposed to do with that?

Mark’s Gospel also portrays Jesus as the messiah sent by God to overpower evil and declare to the lost and forgotten the all-powerful message of God’s abiding love.

For anyone who finds themselves feeling overwhelmed, uncertain, or stumbling for answers, Mark’s Gospel reminds us that Jesus is stronger than any situation or reality in our lives.  That’s Good News!
