July Sermon Series
9:00 a.m. - Contemporary Worship
11:15 a.m. - Traditional Worship
Dr. Matt Russell will explore themes about connection and the new community that Jesus came to create. At the end of the day Jesus came not to get us out of the world and into heaven but to create a new community of folks who relate to each other in a totally different and liberative way. This is a border-crossing love, a boundary-spanning love and is the core of what it means to be “christian.” Seeing No Stranger begins with wonder and curiosity. Who we wonder about ultimately determines whose stories we hear and whose joys and pain we share. Those with whom we grieve and celebrate are ultimately those with whom we organize and advocate. The call of Jesus is to nurture the spiritual practice of curiosity and empathy as we move towards cultivating this new community that will change the very world we live in.
